I have my whole family into fly fishing, which includes myself, my wife, my son and my daughter. It pretty much goes without saying, but our equipment gets a lot of use. We go through a ton of flies on a regular basis. Plus, sometimes we need to repair or replace things more often since we’re fishing with 10 and 12 year olds.
We take a weekend to go fly fishing about every month as a family. We try to keep it within a 200 mile radius so it isn’t too bad for a short trip. Not to mention, siblings in a car for too long can be a lot to deal with. Couple that with bathroom breaks and you can understand why we don’t go too far on road trips.
For a long time, I had been buying trout flies from wherever they were cheapest since we went through so many at a single time. The problem with that is that the quality often was less than what I expected and often they would fall apart before we’d use them.
I had to sit down and do some thorough research on brands that weren’t terribly expensive, since we were buying for 4 of us, but would also actually hold up at least until we used them. My findings took me to Trouts Fly Fishing. They had nymphs and dry flies, and from what it seemed, they were quality products.
I went ahead and ordered a bunch of Euro nymphs and dry flies for my family. I got a high quantity of each so everyone could choose what they wanted while they were fishing. There wouldn’t be any arguing over who gets what.
We tested them out on our next fishing trip, and all went swimmingly. I was really impressed with the quality of the product, and it saved me the hassle of hearing my kids complain that their flies were broken or that one of them took the one that they wanted and there weren’t any left. It sounds silly, but that can really be obnoxious during a weekend away.
I have continued to purchase flies for my family from Trouts Fly Fishing, along with many other fishing supplies. Eventually, when we upgrade our fly fishing rods, I plan to buy those from them as well.
It really made our family trips a more positive experience. The kids are happy and my wife and I actually get to relax and breathe a little. It’s amazing how an easy fix like this can take a family getaway to a whole new level. I highly recommend this company.
